Cutting Off Crimea

In summer 2026, the Unmanned Systems Forces conduct a coordinated campaign to isolate occupied Crimea — simultaneously cutting three supply arteries: electricity, fuel and land logistics. Below are the publicly announced results via the official channel of the USF Commander.

Energy blockade — "Crimean Switch off"

Main target — energy bridge "Kuban–Crimea", through which the occupied peninsula receives electricity from mainland russia (four undersea cable lines, transition point PP-2 "Crimea"). The campaign received the official name "Crimean Switch off" on 05.07.2026 and continues indefinitely: starting figures from the first week (1–8.07.2026) — 44 energy nodes, 14.5 km of energy bridge — grew to the claimed 349 energy nodes as of 31.08.2026 (168 in August), and on 28.08.2026 a new branch "East-Vyo" was opened in occupied Luhansk region. The occupation administration acknowledged blackouts in cities of the Southern Coast of Crimea and Simferopol already at the campaign's start.

Fuel blockade — operation "MoLoChKa"

Second vector — fuel supply by sea. Launched on 6 July 2026 in the Sea of Azov (starting figure — 21 vessels in the first 72 hours, 6–8.07.2026) and on 15 July 2026 officially expanded to the Black Sea under the name "MoLoCHKa" ("MOscow will Fall Through Crimea"). As of 31.08.2026, 260 shadow fleet vessels hit from 06.07 (54 in August); the Kerch Strait blocked indefinitely from 10.07.2026. Goal — deprive the occupation grouping and civilian infrastructure in Crimea of gasoline and diesel. Pilots "Kairos" 414th Separate USF Brigade "Magyar's Birds", 413th Regiment "Raid" and 1st USF Operational Center worked.

Logistical lockdown — land corridor

Third vector — land supply corridor through temporarily occupied territories. Occupation military logistics (freight transport with weapons, ammunition and fuel) declared a target of systematic strikes. According to statements, freight traffic through the corridor hit over the course of a week.

Campaign logic

Three vectors—energy, fuel, logistics—strike at one vulnerability: Crimea is critically dependent on external supply. Depriving any one of the three arteries raises the cost of maintaining the grouping; simultaneous pressure on all three—this is the doctrine of "logistical strangulation" instead of frontal assault. The material documents the Commander's public communication, and is not a forecast of future operations.

International coverage

The campaign to isolate Crimea was widely covered by leading global media. Reuters (exclusive interview, 11.06.2026) was first to lay out the "cutting off" strategy and reported a drop in traffic on the "Novorossiya" route by more than two-thirds in a month. CNN (20.06) described how "medium-range drones strangle Russian logistics". NPR (27.06) cited Minister Fedorov's words: "Crimea is becoming an island". Atlantic Council (30.06) called the blockade a threat to "Putin's greatest victory" (tourist bookings −79% in June). Also: Al Jazeera, Kyiv Independent, The Washington Post, Yomiuri Shimbun (Japan), NRK (Norway).

In the Commander's words: "We are isolating Crimea in the near future" (Reuters). On strikes along the route—"easy as shooting partridges in an open field". On tankers—"the battle for fuel for Crimea in the Sea of Azov continues".

August 2026—a new layer of publications. Estonian Postimees (06.08) cited the Commander's words: the blockade of Crimea "is only in the first stage". Associated Press (10.08, author Hanna Arkhirova) gave the month's most extensive interview: the campaign is funded at only 14% of what is needed, with faster funding strikes could increase sevenfold; the material was reprinted by Washington Post, PBS NewsHour, Czech ČTK and Hungarian Portfolio.hu, HVG. German Der Tagesspiegel (28.08) cited the Commander's statement that there is not a single Russian military vessel near the peninsula, and missile launches from Crimea have practically ceased. Ukrainian Glavkom (05.09, September cycle material) relayed the thesis about the possibility of liberating Crimea without a ground operation—through remote strikes on energy and fuel infrastructure. USF in this context also names an implicit fourth vector of pressure on Crimea: on 14.08.2026 the Commander stated that power outages of radars and air defenses by strikes of "Crimean Switch-off" opens the way for deeper strikes "PPOpad" —the third confirmed campaign of the summer.

In the Commander's words (August): "Wildberries is the quartermaster of the war" (AP). "Not production capacity, but the banal problem of untimely funding" (AP, on the limitation of scale). "Creating conditions under which it will be impossible to maintain any military capability there will make Crimea uninteresting... as a military bridgehead" (AP).
